Love Island

#Spatial design, 3D environment design
Program: Mozilla Hubs/Spoke, Blender, Cinema4D, Sketchfab
Through this project, I explored virtual environments through Mozilla Hubs and Mozilla Spoke and explored how digital space could mimic or build physical domains. Love Island, the virtual world I built, is a space that satisfies the needs of people who occur on the basis of a digital environment such as social media. In digital environments such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, we upload images of our lives and interact with others. In this exchange process, the measure of others' 'interest' plays an important role. Another person's interest in "like" is soon conveyed to the person who uploaded it with the number of hearts. There are only differences in degree from person to person, but it is hard to be completely indifferent here. In order to receive more attention from others, their reality is sometimes hypothetical. I try to satisfy people's desire to get attention through Love Island, and at the same time, I ask what social media means in the contemporary world.
In the Love Island
When people are invited to the island, they can talk with each other or take pictures with sculptures in the background. Also, the animation effects of the sculptures convey a sense of energy to visitors. In addition, when they explore this space, the pieces of music set change the atmosphere differently depending on the area.
Problem & Solution
1. Publish size problem
The maximum capacity (128MB) is set when publishing an environment made by Mozilla spoke with a hub. The problem of exceeding the maximum capacity occurred continuously, so the space was reduced and limited by adding cylindrical objects. In addition, the objects used by Sketchfab were reduced by selecting low poly instead of high poly.
2. Camera set up
When others participated in a published virtual environment, their positions were sometimes strange. Like they are inside of an object or out of the area that I set up. So I set up the Spawn point position in Mozilla Spoke to fix their default position when the participants came in.
3. Object’s animation
In order to put an animation effect in the object, a texture was set as an image in the text using a Blender, and then a UV scroll effect was used. The animation cannot be checked on the page to be modified, but the effect of the movement can be seen on the screen published in Mozilla Hub.
