Pattern
In the project, I wanted to confuse and make ambiguous who created the piece, who made the decisions, and who the viewers are. All of these processes are based on democratic, postmodern thinking in which the “self” and the “other” are not distinguished. We live in a world overflowing with dichotomy, but there may be just as many boundaries. Here are the steps how I generated the final video.
First, I created a chart so that people can fill in numbers.
It says “Randomly pick 8 pixels and number them from 1 to 8”
I had 36 participants participate.
Secondly, Based on the numbers, I generated patterns.
Or it could be identified as icons.
Squares are paths, and dots are starting and ending points.
Again, I sent out a survey, so that people can choose their best one.
I used a google form
The video was based on each icon’s popularity.
More chosen ones get to be exposed longer.
I call it democratic design.
